Homeless outreach 6/12/2026

Outreach Report 6/12/2026

Team Members (11): Peggy, Steve, Daniel D., Dan Y., Loren, Barbara, Vangie, Don, Doreen, Islande, and Linda

Prayer Time, 5:15 PM – 5:45 PM
We were blessed with beautiful sunshine and formed a prayer circle outside in the parking lot. Don opened us in prayer. We prayed for Korey, who was meeting with our Young Adult group at the time. Loren closed us in prayer. Vangie prepared pancit, a Filipino dish, along with blondies and chocolate bars for the team.
This was Islande’s first time serving with us. She shared that she is a Registered Nurse (RN) at Tacoma General Hospital and has been a nurse for 13 years. We would like to thank her for joining us and serving alongside the team.

Preparing the Van
We loaded the van with: c
lothes, coats, shoes, blankets, sanitary kits.
We also loaded: hot food, sack lunches, Cup-a-Noodle soups, hot water, silverware, cups, paper towels, beverages.

Don and Vangie Jefferson drove the outreach van. Departure Time: 5:58 PM

272nd & Pacific Highway South Transit Center
Don, Dan Y., and Loren walked over to where people were sitting and lying in the parking lot and invited them to come to the van.
We were surprised to serve 13 people at this location.

Deante received prayer from Peggy for housing. He requested a pair of size 10 shoes, which Linda was able to find for him.
I always reflect back to an outreach when Korey took the shoes off his own feet and gave them to a brother in need. They fit perfectly. Korey walked barefoot for a while afterward. It was a true example of what Jesus meant when He said to give to those in need.

Miola received essentials and hot food.

Alek received prayer from Peggy for housing.

Omberto patiently stood at the back of the van waiting for his turn. At one point, there were approximately nine people waiting for prayer, food, essentials, or all three.

Peter received prayer from Peggy for housing and requested a shirt and jacket.

Shayrma received essentials and food.

Julia shared that she misses her 20-year-old son and had not seen him for quite some time. Daniel D. prayed for reconciliation and restoration in their relationship.

Angel received prayer from Peggy, along with food and essentials.

Aaron received prayer from Peggy following Angel.

Kayla received food, water, socks, and a sanitary kit. These kits include chapstick, hand sanitizer, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and a pair of light socks.

Shahaeed received prayer from Dan Y. During a previous outreach, Daniel D. had prayed with him regarding his two children who live in Aberdeen. He also received hot food, essentials, a shirt, and water.

Gabriel received prayer from Dan Y. and was given hot food.

Unfortunately, I missed the names of two individuals who also received food and essentials. There was a lot happening at once, and although I saw them receive what they needed, I was unable to record their names.

Lowe’s – South 240th Street,
6:28 PM
This was a new outreach location for us.
On the side of the Lowe’s store, several people were gathered with their belongings. Some were sleeping, and one gentleman was in a wheelchair. As we drove by, Steve informed them that Northwest Church Outreach was available with food and supplies. We turned around, parked nearby, and began serving.

Aaron shared that he was originally from Granite Falls and moved to Federal Way about two years ago. He was helping a friend in a wheelchair. He received two bags—one for himself and one for Gregory (“OG”).

Joey appeared to be a young teenager. It was heartbreaking to see him under the influence, with severely dilated eyes. He swung his outreach bag around repeatedly, and I was surprised nothing fell out. Quietly, I thanked God for those around him who were looking out for him and prayed they would continue to do so. Tears came to my eyes as I watched him.

Dewayne received hot food and essentials.

Aric received hot food and essentials.

Laurie received hot food and essentials.

Robin received hot food and essentials.

Tyler
requested two bags—one for himself and one for his mother.

Invy approached from the opposite direction of the group. She said very little, accepted food and essentials, thanked us, and continued on her way.

At this point we were running low on food and needed to continue to our next location.

Safeway Parking Lot – 320th & Pacific Highway,
7:23 PM

Marissa received hot food and essentials.

Loren, Dan Y., and Linda walked over to a group sitting a short distance from where the van was parked. Loren knew Richard and spent a few minutes talking with him.
Richard had a dowsing rod, a Y-shaped stick used by some people to locate water.

Sandi shared that she was Catholic, had her own place to live, and did not use drugs. She mentioned attending a local church and spoke highly of Pastor Carrie Ollipha. She also shared that a woman from her church makes hats and gloves to give away.
Sandi did not need any supplies but requested prayer. Dan Y. prayed for her finances, health, and relationship with her daughter.
She also told us about a friend whose tent caught fire while she was inside, resulting in a devastating loss. We prayed with Sandi again and invited her to visit Northwest Church.

Miguel was with his white pit bull, “Mama.” We offered dog food, but he explained that he feeds her a specific brand and declined.

Spirit and Liz were spending time together and did not request anything.

Nokia, whom we know from the Day Center, was also at this location.
She shared that she had miscarried her baby and suffered severe frostbite over the winter, resulting in the loss of several toes. Despite those hardships, she now has her own place to live. She looked healthy and content, listening to music on her boom box. We continue to pray for her healing, sobriety, and restoration. We are deeply saddened by her miscarriage and thankful for the ways God has been working in her life.

Red, named for his red beard, had already received food and essentials. He showed us several useful items he had found near a dumpster and mentioned that he often finds valuable things.

Nicole (“Nix”) seemed to enjoy simply being around people. She had already received food and essentials earlier.

Peter received prayer concerning salvation. Don shared that Peter professed his faith in Christ, acknowledging that Jesus gave His life to save him.
As Linda approached to let the group know Steve was ready to depart after prayer concluded, a man drove up in a vehicle. Seeing Peter being prayed for, he stopped and said, “I like what you and Daniel are doing.” He handed Don a $100 donation through the window. Don had already received another donation earlier in the evening. What a blessing. The funds were given to Vangie, who then passed them to Loren for Brigit’s oversight.

Return & Debrief, 8:15 PM
We returned to Northwest Church and unloaded all outreach supplies, placing them back into the storage cages. We saw Korey speaking to the Young Adults on stage in the chapel. The students appeared engaged and attentive. We then quietly gathered in the foyer for our debrief.

Debrief Notes
We still need additional designated backup drivers in case Steve or Don are unavailable.
Daniel D. shared about an individual who declined prayer because he did not want everyone knowing his personal business.
Steve emphasized “quality over quantity” and stated that once everyone has been served and offered prayer, it is time to move on.
We discussed being attentive when someone is collecting supplies for a person who is unable to come to the van due to mobility limitations. In those situations, we may be able to send team members directly to them.
We should continue asking each person whether they have received prayer so we can make sure everyone has been offered spiritual support.
Building relationships and ministering the love of Jesus remains our primary focus.
We discussed the upcoming July BBQ Outreach.
The youth group is expected to join us again sometime in July. More details will be announced soon.
Please continue praying for Korey and our outreach team as we seek to grow and remain faithful in this ministry.
